It’s not often that three brothers finish a state amateur all within the top 10. The Goldasich family will have something to celebrate after a long week at Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club in Killen, Ala.
Jack Goldasich of Birmingham was the top brother, despite entering the final round three shots off the lead. Goldasich fired a bogey-free 6-under 66 that vaulted him to 9 under, good for a two-shot win on his younger brother, Ford.
Ford had similar final-round heroics, posting a round of 67 to climb the leaderboard. The oldest Goldasich, Sam, finished in 10th at 2 under. Sam will be a senior next season at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. There are nine Goldasichs in all.
Third-round leader Will McFadden of Mobile slipped to a tie for third with Austin Coggin of Birmingham. Both men were 6 under for the week.
Defending champion, Matt Lorenz of Fairhope posted a 3-over 75 to finish in a tie for 29th at 6-over 293.
THIRD-ROUND RECAP
Will McFadden of Mobile, Ala., carded an even-par 72 at Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club in Killen, Ala., to stand atop the leaderboard at 6-under 209. McFadden is one stroke ahead of Rob Richards of Haleyville.
Trent Alexander of Athens, the 36-hole leader, carded a 3-over 75 to fall into a tie for third place with Austin Coggin of Vestavia Hills at 4-under 211.
Defending champion, Matt Lorenz of Fairhope, posted a 2-under 70 to move up into a tie for 27th at 3-over 218.
The course returned to a par-72 layout Saturday. The 435-yard par-4 sixth hole played as a 182-yard par 3 on Friday due to unplayable conditions on that hole’s landing zone which changed the course from its traditional par 72 layout to a par 71.
Today’s field was comprised of the low 60 players and ties from the first two rounds. The cut line fell at 6-over 149 with 64 players remaining in weekend play.
