Listen: Road to Hoylake series continues with Eckroat, Fisk
Austin Eckroat and Steven Fisk
The U.S. Amateur, the culminating amateur event of the summer, is inching closer. All the summer experiences that Walker Cup hopefuls have had lead up to this coming week. This is what Ben Adelberg, host of The Back of the Range podcast, calls “The Road to Hoylake.”
As the U.S. Walker Cup team fills out for the Sept. 7-8 matches at Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, England, half the fun is getting to know the players in consideration for a team pick. The Back of the Range podcast is telling those stories, two by two.
This week, Adelberg features two men who might have fallen under the radar, each in his own way.
Steven Fisk is coming off a senior season at Georgia Southern in which he won six times individually. Playing in the Sun Belt Conference, Fisk wasn't a player who immediately burst onto the scene, at least until he finished runner-up to Matthew Wolff in the individual portion of the NCAA Championship.
Then there's Wolff's teammate,
Austin Eckroat. The rising Oklahoma State junior was the only player
not named Wolff or Viktor Hovland to log an individual win for the Cowboys this season. Eckroat will return to Stillwater, Okla., as Oklahoma State's anchor this coming season as many of his teammates have either graduated or turned professional.
Hear what both men had to say in this week’s latest episode.
