Jackson adds to his collection with Tennessee Senior Am victory

At this point, it’s becoming hard to keep track of Tim Jackson’s hardware. On Thursday, the 60-year-old won the Tennessee State Senior, which earned him his 23rd Tennessee Golf Association trophy.
This, of course, is why Jackson has become synonymous with high-level amateur golf in Tennessee.
Jackson didn’t start particularly hot at Jackson (Tenn.) Country Club, and after an opening 73, had four shots to make up. He did that with subsequent rounds of 71-70. At 2-under 214 for 54 holes, he finished as the only player under par, and with a five-shot victory over Tom Paulsen.
“It’s nice to hit your goals for the year,” Jackson said. “Unfortunately I didn’t get to play in the State Amateur or the State Match Play – I was disappointed not to play in those – but I was pretty happy with how I played this year. I’ve been pretty consistent all year. Hopefully I can carry this into the (State) Mid-Am next month.”
When asked what keeps his competitive fire burning strong all these years, Jackson replied, “Just knowing that I don’t have much of a window left … As long as I’m still healthy and injury free, I’m going to show up and give it my best and see what I can do until my number is up.”
Paulsen, for his part, closed with the only other red number in the final round, a 1-under 71. He finished at 3 over.
John Fisher was solo third at 4 over, followed by three men tied for fourth including David Apperson, Dan Barton and Jeff Golliher.
Defending champion Steve Golliher was 10th at 10 over.
