It was only a matter of time until it all came together for Pepperdine, one of the most promising preseason stories of the 2019-20 season. In its third team event this fall, the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, the Waves went 43 under for a 16-shot victory. Redshirt senior Sahith Theegala led the way, earning his third college title in the process.
Pepperdine also won the Alister MacKenzie, played at the famed designer’s Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif., last season, and set a team scoring record with its 52-under total.
On Tuesday, Pepperdine’s victory came as a result of placing every player – including Nevada transfer Joey Vrzich, playing as an individual – inside the top 20. Theegala led the effort with a 16-under total that left him in first. Freshman William Mouw was 11 under and seventh followed by Joshua McCarthy at 8 under in 10th.

Mouw contributed the low score of the final round, a 5-under 66 that included a run of three consecutive birdies from Nos. 12-14.
Behind Pepperdine, California posted a team total of 27 under to finish second, and St. Mary’s (California) was third another shot back.
