The University of Central Florida vastly increased its lead at its own Tavistock Collegiate on Monday, going 13 under to build a 17-shot cushion with one round left to play.
With a top field assembled at the coveted Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, Fla., UCF is closing in on its first fall victory at a good time. So far this season, UCF has finished in the top 5 in each of three starts and won the Hartford Hawks Invitational last month.
The Knights have combined for 40 total birdies through two rounds, the most of any team. The team blistered the back nine as three players – Juan Delgado, 69; Tommy Cao, 71; and Clement Charmasson, 66 – posted a second-round score under par. Charmasson was bogey free on Monday.
UCF’s 13-under Day 2 total moved the Knights to 21 under, which puts them 17 shots ahead of Texas Tech and Vanderbilt in a tie for second.
Two more teams, California and LSU, are tied for fourth at 2 under. Texas stands at even par through 36 holes.
In the individual race, California’s Finigan Tilly posted a second-round 70 and at 7 under, is one shot ahead of three players in a tie for second: Texas Tech’s Sandy Scott, and UCF’s Charmasson and Johnny Travale.
