It was an historic day for freshman Sophie Guo and the No. 2 Texas women's golf team on Wednesday. Guo and the Longhorns both smashed school records en route to claiming the individual and team titles at the White Sands Invitational at the Atlantis Ocean Course Golf Club in Nassau, Bahamas.

Texas shot a school-record 36-under-par to win the event by 29 strokes. It shattered the previous school record relative to par at 28-under, set at the 2018 Schooner Fall Classic. The Longhorns turned in a three-round total of 828 [276-278-274], which marked the second-best 54-hole total in school history and best on a par-72 course.

No. 16 Arkansas placed second with a seven-under-par 857 [283-289-285], while Oklahoma was third with a six-under-par 858 [295-285-278].

Guo earned her first collegiate victory, winning by six strokes with a 17-under-par 199 [66-67-66]. Her 199 sets the Texas school record, making her the first golfer in program history to chart a sub-200 54-hole total. Her 17-under-par for the tournament ties for the fourth-best 54-hole total relative to par in NCAA history [the NCAA 54-hole record is 19-under-par].

The Longhorns placed four golfers in the top-six individually at the White Sands Invitational and all five in the lineup finished among the top-20.

As a team, Texas led the field with 60 birdies and four eagles on the week. The Longhorns also turned in 174 pars. In addition, Texas had the best scoring average of any team in the field on par-four [3.95, -8] and par-five [4.50, -30] holes.

"That was simply an incredible tournament for us – definitely among the best I have ever been a part of as a college golf coach. I'm proud of every player on our team and I think they all did great things this week. Emilee, Hailee, Sára, Pappy, Sophie, Kelly and Maren – they are an incredible group of women. That's all I can say. And Sophie – I'm just speechless. She didn't just beat the previous individual record at Texas, she shattered it on a good course where the LPGA Tour is played. I am so happy for her and for all of her teammates too. It's great when things like this happen for good people. There is nothing better than that. I am so proud of her."

For the Longhorns, it was their third team victory in four events this fall.
