But the tournament committee, and a group that includes the Brookside Men's Golf Club, Rose Bowl Operations, Brookside GC staff, and AmateurGolf.com convened to make sure that everyone knows, like our former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the Pasadena City was going to " be back."

The traditional dates in April sold out -- right in the middle of golf's shutdown.

Determined not to miss a second year, the committee contacted players and a very large percentage of them decided to play on the new July dates. Any that couldn't were replaced by eager golfers form the waiting list.

The two names you might expect to do battle for the title, Dan Sullivan and Tim Hogarth, were not only there, they rose to the top.

For this year's battle, it was Hogarth (a former USGA Publinx champ who earned a spot into the Masters some years back) who defeated Sullivan (a two-time USGA Mid-Am semifinalist) by two shots. It was Hogarth's 7th Pasadena City Championship, extending his all-time record.

Hogarth started slow - his first round 75 left him well back of Daniel Ragsdale (the only player to break 70 in the first round with 69). But there was no doubt that Hogarth would find a way to get into the mix, and he did just that with a nearly flawless round on Saturday - a 66 that put him into a tie for third with steady Dan Sullivan who posted rounds of 71 and 70.

On Sunday, playing the same C.W. Koiner course that was used in round one -- but this time from the Gold tees -- Hogarth caught fire. Seven birdies against just a single bogey put him over the top at 7-under for the tournament, as Sullivan posted his best round of the weekend (a 68) to finish solo second.

Rounding out the top three, Tongun Lako shot a final round 70 to finish solo third at 4-under. The tournament should move to its traditional date in 2021, during the month of April. We're betting it will fill quickly.
