Thanks to Alex Podlogar of Pinehurst for information in this report.Martha Leach (Hebron, Ky.), playing in her first Women’s North & South Senior Amateur, picked up her first Putter Boy trophy after firing a 4-under 68 on Pinehurst No. 5 to come from behind and defeat 2019 North & South Senior Champion Ellen Port.
Leach started the final round three shots back of Port, a three-time U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Champion, but made five birdies on the day to cruise to a five-shot victory.
“Finally,” said Leach, who, for decades has been competitive in the Women’s North & South Amateur, and is exempt to play in that event again in 2021 following her Senior victory. “It really means a lot to have one of these, to have my name on the wall inside the clubhouse. I’ve played in so many Amateurs, and to win in my first time in the Senior, I am so very happy.”
Patty Moore, a Pinehurst Country Club member, won her fourth North & South Women's Super Senior, making four birdies in her last seven holes to edge Teresa Cleland by three shots. With three North & South Senior Women’s wins, Moore now has seven Putter Boy trophies, second only to Paul Simson, who picked up his 9th today with a win in the Men's Senior.
