Kevin Macy of Tampa was giving chase, but wasn't making up much ground until the stretch of Holes 14-16, when Parksinon made three-straight bogeys and allowed Macy to cut his lead in half.

But when Parkioson got back on track and parred the final two holes, a three shot victory belonged to him.

“The harder the course is, the more advantage I have just because I play a lot of golf,” Parkinson, who tees it up three or four times a week at Alpine Country Club in Highland, Utah, told Golfweek.

The tournament was played at the Falls. Club of the Palm Beaches in Florida.

Parkinson, who played college golf at BYU his freshman year (1972), went into pre-med and decided to focus on his studies instead of pursuing a career in golf.

He is a recently retired orthopedic surgeon who spent 17 years in the Army, now competing regularly.

His first foray back into competitive amateur golf happened roughly a year ago at the Golfweek Society of Seniors Challenge Cup. He attempted qualifiers for USGA events earlier in his golf life, but his most recent USGA experience has been as a caddie for his son Joe, who also played at BYU.

Parkinson caddied for his son Joe at two U.S. Amateurs. In one of them, they were paired with Bryson DeChambeau.

OTHER DIVISIONS

Walt Martin of St. Augustine, Florida, won the super legend division and Charley Yandell of Cashiers, North Carolina took the Legends title.
