Four bogeys and two eagles over the course of 54-holes usually sets a player up for success. This week was no different for the University of San Francisco senior Alex Chin (Pleasanton, California).

The Don traveled down to Reno, Nevada to put his game against some of the best collegiate “free agents” in the region thanks to the GCAA Amateur Series’ stop at Wolf Run Golf Club. With many student-athletes unable to play golf this semester due to conference or school restrictions relating to COVID-19, college players have taken it upon themselves to find the best competition available.

Chin was one of three players to kick off the first round of the event with a 6-under 66. Able to keep his foot on the accelerator, Chin followed the opening 66 with an afternoon 67 to close out the first day of the tournament with an 11-under total, four shots clear of the nearest competitor.

Picking up right where he left off, Chin closed out the tournament with a final round 68 for a 15-under 201 total and a six-shot victory.

One unique aspect of the GCAA Amateur Series is that women play alongside the men from separate tees. No separate scoreboard, just tee it up and play your best. At Wolf Run, Washington senior Alice Duan (Lincoln, Nebraska) did just that.

Following rounds of 71 and 67 on Monday, Duan carded a final round 69 to best everyone but Chin. Her 9-under 207 was good enough for a solo second-place finish as she staved off Colorado State’s Davis Bryant (Aurora, Colorado) who finished in third at 8-under 208.

Nevada junior, Victoria Gailey (Tigard, Oregon) just missed a top-five finish herself with a 5-under 211 seventh-place finish.
