You play to win the game, right?

The Baylor women’s golf team has taken that classic saying to heart so far this season.

Following wins at the Schooner Classic and Betsy Rawls Invitational, the Bears once again traveled North on I-35 and hung a right onto US Highway 81 for Oklahoma State’s Cowgirl Classic at Karsten Creek Golf Club.

Thursday’s 36 holes were windy but warm as temperatures were close to 90 degrees with winds whipping in from the north gusting to near 35 miles per hour. The Bears closed the first day out with a team score of 20-over, 596. Trailing Texas Tech but five shots, the Bears were well within striking range.

As the saying goes, if you don’t like the weather in Oklahoma, just wait five minutes. Friday’s final round began with wind chills just above freezing and winds once again blistering out of the north.

The weather definitely played a factor in to the scoring Friday but the Bears were unfazed as they posted the lowest team score on the day (294). Using a seven over par team score, the Bears climbed into the captain’s seat while Texas Tech struggled with a 13 over par day.

Not only has the team dominated the fall season, so have their individuals.

Gurleen Kaur helped the Bears sweep medalist and team honors at both the Schooner CLassic and Betsy Rawls Invitational and was looking for her third straight collegiate win of the fall in Stillwater.

Netting a 13th place finish at 10 over for the tournament, it was her teammate Elodie Chapelet picking up where Kaur left off.

Chapelet took rounds of even-par 72 and two-under 70 on Thursday to sit atop the individual leaderboard heading into the final round. The fifth-year senior out of Souraide, France was one under on the day through 16 holes, giving herself a five-stroke lead with two to play.

Needing the cushion, Chapelet tallied back to back bogeys on Nos. 17 and 18, unceremoniously crowning herself the champion over Texas Tech’s Sofia Garcia.

Chapelet’s 1-under 215 cleared Garcia by three strokes. BYU’s Allysha Mae Mateo and OSU’s Isabell Fierro tied for third at 5-over, 221.

With the Bears’ fall schedule wrapping up November 2 at the Kissing Tree Invitational hosted by Texas State, Baylor will look to finish off one of the more dominant half seasons in recent history going four for four in team and individual championships.
