Jon Rahm is now a member of Team Callaway
Equipment change decisions by top Tour players aren't made lightly.
But for PGA Tour star Jon Rahm, going "all in" with Callaway for 2021 isn't so risky. That's because joining Team Callaway marks a reunion of sorts, not a first time endeavor.
Rahm not only played Callaway clubs during his standout amateur days at Arizona State, he set a course record with his new gear in his first round back with Callaway as a pro.
“I’m so happy to be joining Callaway, and I can’t wait to start the year,” Rahm said. “The equipment is already performing well for me, and in my first round with the new setup, I shot a course record 59 at Silverleaf. I have confidence in my new Callaway clubs – and especially the golf ball, which has really impressed me during the testing process.”
The No. 2 ranked player in the world penned a multiyear agreement with the Carlsbad-based company, starting it's year out with a bang. As a Staff Pro, he will transition into a full bag of Callaway woods, irons, and wedges. And it won't stop there. Rahm will play a Callaway Chrome Soft X Golf Ball, and an Odyssey Putter, while wearing apparel from TravisMathew.
Rahm's official Callaway Staff debut this week at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, with a bag that includes Callaway Prototype Woods, Callaway Prototype Irons, and a Callaway Chrome Soft X Golf Ball.
There is little doubt that the major equipment blogs will be pausing their TVs to capture images of all of Rahm's new toys.
Rahm used Callaway and Odyssey equipment at Arizona State University, where he won 11 collegiate tournaments -- the second most wins in school history, behind fellow Callaway Staffer Phil Mickelson. Rahm, who played for Phil's broth Tim at Arizona State, has received the Ben Hogan Award as the best college player in the United States in 2015 and 2016, the first golfer to win the award twice. He was the No. 1 ranked amateur by WAGR for a record 60 weeks.
Decisions like this get made at the top level of a company, and after recently announcing a buyout of Topgolf, there is no doubt that Callaway President & CEO Chip Brewer has been keeping busy during the pandemic.
“We’re proud to welcome Jon Rahm as the newest member of our Tour Staff,” said Brewer, who noted Rahm's ability to win on golf's biggest stages.
"We’ve admired Jon for many years, going back to his college days when he first used our equipment," he continued. "We’re excited to see him playing Callaway and Odyssey again, as he looks to take his game to yet another level.”
