Arizona Men's Golf overcame blustery winds and snow delays in the Arizona Intercollegiate to win its home event for a fourth consecutive year while senior Brad Reeves won the individual championship. The final day of action came down to Arizona and Wake Forest battling hole for hole before the Wildcats pulled away for the six-stroke victory.
"We did a great job this week of staying patient and composed in the face of some very challenging weather conditions," said head coach Jim Anderson. "We didn't complete execute our game plan every day that we teed up, but it was very encouraging to see all of our guys battle the wind and snow and play the best they could. I am so proud of this group. We saw three different wind directions in three different rounds. We went into this tournament knowing it was one we should win at home, and it's great to see us get it done. I could not be more proud of our group."
Reeves claimed the individual title with a final score of 4-under par, besting Iowa State's Lachlan Barker and Michael Brennan of Wake Forest by two strokes. The senior punctuated his final round with his second eagle of the tournament on the ninth hole. He became Arizona's first individual champion since George Cunningham won the 2018 William H. Tucker Intercollegiate in Albuquerque.
"Individually this my first collegiate win and it only took me four-and-a-half years," said Brad Reeves with a chuckle after the round. "It's a great feeling and there was a lot to learn from, including making a triple on the 17th hole and still winning. I think that says a lot about how well I played throughout the week."
Arizona also got a pair of top-10 finishes from the senior duo of David Laskin (T-7th) and Trevor Werbylo (T-10th). Laskin's birdie putt on the 18th green proved to be the nail in the coffin of the Demon Deacons who had gained four strokes on the Wildcats in the final round.
