Henry Do and Dongmin Kim captured the 2021 National Four-Ball Invitational, held over a rainy two days at Olympia Fields Country Club in Olympia Fields, Ill.
With a two-day total score of 133 (-9) Do and Kim won the four-ball title by three strokes over their closest competitors, the Illinois duo of Andrew Hulett and Bennett Blakeman.
This is not the first time that Do and Kim have teamed up to win a championship, as Do, who played his collegiate golf at North Carolina, won the 2014 Michigan Amateur Championship with Kim on his bag.
Following Thursday’s first round on the par-70 North Course, Do and Kim found themselves in a three-way tie for the lead with the team of Hulett and Blakeman and Illinois natives Matt Maskel and Mike Cushing, all carding first round four-under 66s.
During Friday’s second round on the South Course, a par-72, Do and Kim put together a cumulative five-under 67, the low round of the day, to finish the tournament at nine-under par.
Hulett and Blakeman finished in second place with a final round 70 (-2), while the teams of Rob Laird and Tyler Hunt (68-69) and Chris Headen and Michael Samp (67-70) tied for third at five-under par.
In the Senior Division, West Virginians Jim Grimett (Huntington, W.Va.) and Pat Carter (Man, W.Va), who teamed up to win the 2019 Senior Division at the Olympia Fields Four-Ball, defended their title with a two-day total of 137 (-5), finishing six strokes clear of their nearest competition, the team of Jerry Marifke (Collierville, Ten.) and Steve Scott. Grimett and Carter were the only team in the division to finish under par.
The Super Senior Division provided the most drama of the event, as the team of Brent Cooper (Dallas, Tex.) and Mike Shoffner (Graham, N.C.) carded a four-under 68 during the second round to finish with a three-under 139, edging the duo of Fred McCord (Collierville, Ten.) and Gary Simpson (Memphis, Ten.), who finished with a two-under 140.
