After three inches of rain and multiple weather suspensions during the 13th Carolinas Golf Association Super Senior Championship, held at the Country Club of South Carolina, Greenville, S.C.’s John Dennis captured the title with a two-round total score of 140 (-4), one stroke clear of Robert Parrott (Raleigh, N.C.).

Dennis was the only golfer of 113 who finished the event in either age division to post two rounds under par (70-70) en route to his second-ever Carolinas Golf Association title.

“The CGA means a lot to me, as does the SCGA,” Dennis told the association. “It’s important for me to be able to try my best out here and to win. I am very competitive and it is fulfilling when you do what you are supposed to do. This win means so much.”

Dennis began Tuesday’s second round in a three-way tie for second place with Chesterfield, S.C.’s Joe Hendrick, and 2021 North Carolina Senior Amateur Champion Paul Simson (Raleigh, N.C.), one stroke behind first round leader, Lennie Barton (Raleigh, N.C.). The 2011 Carolinas Senior Open champion overcame an early bogey on the par 3 third hole to birdie holes seven, eight, and fourteen, carding his second consecutive round of 70 (-2) at the Super Senior.

He was able to hold off Parrott, whose second round 68 (-4) including five birdies, was the low round of the tournament for the 65+ age division.

Barton’s one-over-par 73 in the second round led him to a two-under-par finish, good enough to earn him solo third place, ahead of Johnny Elam (Charlotte, N.C.), Russ Perry (Winston-Salem, N.C.), Doug Owens (Albemarle, N.C.) and Hendrick, who all finished in a tie for fourth place at one-under-par.

Following a first-round four-under-par 68, Kernersville, N.C.’s Arlis Pike carded a second round 74 (+2), but was able to withstand early second round heroics from Columbia S.C.’s Carey Hite, including five birdies and an eagle in his first 12 holes, to claim the 70+ age division title. Pike’s two-under-par final score was one stroke better than both Hite and Michael Fisher (Pittsboro, NC) who both finished one stroke back at one-under-par.

Pike is a previous three-time winner of the Carolinas Super Senior Amateur Championship, capturing the title in consecutive years from 2013-2015. He also won the 2017 North Carolina Super Senior. It was his first win in the 70+ age division.
