The 96th playing of the George A. Crump Memorial Tournament, better known as the Crump Cup, is set to tee off this Thursday at
Pine Valley Golf Club.
The tournament has long been considered the premier mid-amateur and senior golf event on the amateur golf calendar, and some consider it to be the best experience in amateur golf. To find out why, follow the link below.

Format
36 holes of stroke play qualifying determine match play brackets of 16 for the mid-amateurs, and 8 for the seniors. Only those in the Championship bracket are eligible for the overall title.

Crump Cup Sunday is the one day of the year that the public is invited to Pine Valley, to walk the course and watch the final matches. This year, due to the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, spectators will be invitation-only, limited to one per player or Pine Valley member.
Champions
Jay Sigel has won the most Crump Cup titles, winning nine times between 1975 and 1993. Longtime Pine Valley Golf Club President
O. Gordon Brewer, Jr. won the tournament five times from 1973 to 1989. More recently,
Mike McCoy won four times in a seven-year span from 2004 to 2010.
Past champions include giants of the amateur game, going all the way back to Francis Ouimet and Chick Evans, who each won the event in its first five years of existence.
Last Year
The tournament was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning that three-time champion Michael Muehr (McLean, Va.) is still the titleholder.
Michael Muehr In 2019, the 47-year-old Muehr knocked off a pair of U.S. Mid-Amateur champions on Sunday to win his third Crump Cup title, to go along with wins in 2008 and 2014.

In the Senior Division,
Gene Elliott (W. Des Moines, Iowa) successfully defended his title with a 3&2 finals win over
Arnie Cutrell. Elliott, the #1 ranked player in the
AmateurGolf.com Senior Ranking and the reigning U.S. Senior champion, is one of only four players to win the open division and the senior division in the tournament's 95-year history.

and the UK. The format for the four days is two
rounds
of stroke play qualifying, followed by four
rounds
of
match play. Players are flighted according to
their
qualifying position, and a separate Senior flight
includes three of those flights. Jay Sigel has won

event the most times, with nine victories

Normally, the public is invited to attend the Sunday
final matches but that tradition has been suspended.
