Navarrosa wins Cactus Collegiate Challenge
2021 Cactus Collegiate Challenge champion Brianna Navarrosa
USC sophomore
Brianna Navarrosa dropped in a 10-foot birdie putt on the third hole of a playoff with
Grace Summerhays to win the Cactus Collegiate Challenge on Thursday at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
Navarrosa and Summerhays staged quite a duel over three days at Longbow and gradually separated themselves from the field before finishing at 7-under 209. Navarrosa carded rounds of 71-68-70 while Summerhays kept pace with rounds of 70-68-71.
The two players matched pars and birdies on the first two playoff holes before Navarrosa rolled in a 10-foot birdie putt on the third playoff hole to take the title.
It's likely this won't be the last time Navarrosa and Summerhays will go head-to-head. Navarrosa has been a mainstay in USC's lineup for the past two seasons while Summerhays is set to join Arizona State's lineup in January as an early enrollee after graduating high school a semester ahead of schedule. She is the brother of Sun Devil men's standout, Preston Summerhays.
