Carson Enright, a freshman at Oregon State, carded a final round 69 to win the Saguaro Amateur Wednesday at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes in Maricopa, Ariz.

Enright finished the 54-hole event at 10-under 206, which was good for a one-stroke win over Angelo Marcon, a sophomore at Notre Dame who carded a final round 69 to finish at 9-under 207.

The race for the championship was tight all day, with Enright’s largest lead being two shots and a lot of players within striking distance.

Ethan Davidson was two-back at 8-under 208, followed by Jimmy Dales, Santeri Lehesmaa and Gunnar Broin, who tied for fourth at 7-under 209.

After the field endured a 45-minute frost delay on Wednesday morning, Enright warmed up quickly with birdies on holes 2 and 5 to make the turn at two-under. He picked up two more birdies on his inward nine to offset a bogey for a 3-under round of 69.

Marcon edged ever so close to Enright with an inward nine of 33, but couldn't find a birdie on either of the two holes and had to settle for a second-place finish. Davidson, a sophomore at Sacramento State, also made a late run with four consecutive birdies on holes 13 through 16, but dropped a shot on 17 and settled for par on the closing hole for a final round of 69.

Broin, a native of Chanhassen, Minn. who plays collegiately at Colorado State, began the day with a one-stroke lead on the field following a brilliant 6-under round of 66 on Tuesday, was just one-stroke back heading to the final hole, but made a double bogey for a final round of 73.

“This win meant a lot to me," said enright. "To be able to see the work I’ve put in on the putting pay off is awesome. Also, it was very cool to be in a high-pressure situation again.”
