March came in like a lion and continued to roar all month, as amateurs all over the world turned in outstanding performances during the month.
We had an amateur winning a professional event, record-breaking performances by a Swede on the bayou, a selfless gesture and plenty of memorable senior moments.
Here's a look at the players who caught our eye during the month of March.
AmateurGolf.com's Players of the Month for March, 2022
HARRISON CROWE
Any time an amateur wins a professional event, it gets our attention. Harrison Crowe did just that, winning the Golf Challenge New South Wales Open by a shot to become just the sixth amateur in tournament history to lift the Kel Nagle Cup. The 20-year-old kept his nerve through a tense final round to shoot a 4-under-par 67 and hold on for a
one-shot win over Blake Windred. In three professional starts in the month March, Crowe's stroke average was 68.
INGRID LINDBLAD
It seems all Ingrid Lindblad does is win. The LSU junior picked up her third and fourth wins of the season in a two-week span during the month of March, capturing the Clover Cup and the Clemson Invitational. Her win at the Clemson Invitational was the eighth of her career, which set an
all-time LSU record. With the wins, Lindblad has taken over the top spot in the
Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Ranking.
RUSTY STRAWN
The McDonough, Ga. native fired rounds of 69 and 67 to win the rain-shortened Florida Senior Azalea
in a playoff over four-time AmateurGolf.com Senior Player-of-the-Year Doug Hanzel. Bookending his win at Palatka Golf Club was a fifth-place finish at the Jones Cup Senior Invitational and a runner-up showing at the Moot Thomas Invitational. After finishing second in each of the last two years, Strawn sits atop the
senior Player-of-the-Year points race.
LUKE CLANTON
The 18-year-old from Hialeah, Fla. capped off a busy month of March with a
two-shot victory in the Azalea Invitational at the Country Club of Charleston. The Azalea was Clanton’s third strong showing this month; he finished tied for third in the Dustin Johnson World Junior Golf Championship and then finished tied for ninth in the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley. Clanton has signed a letter of intent to play at Florida State starting next fall.
JOHN ARMSTRONG
With Super Senior wins at the Jones Cup and Moot Thomas Invitationals, the 71-year-old bolted up to fifth on the Gollfweek/AmateurGolf.com Super Senior ranking. The Frostburg, Md. native carded rounds of 74-74-72 to win the Super Senior Division of the Jones Cup Invitational by two strokes over Jack Kearney. He followed up with a three-stroke win over Marc Fried and Andy Padova at the Moot Thomas Invitational at Ocala (Fla.) Golf Club.
KYNADIE ADAMS
The University of Alabama commit shot a final-round 67 to force a playoff at the Lake Jovita Women's Championship, a East Coast Women's Pro Golf Tour event in Dade City, Florida. When she determined that her opponent, newly-turned pro Therese Warner, would stand to make an extra $4000 with a win, but that Adams' prize would be the same either way, she
conceded the playoff. The gesture, which gave Warner her first professional win, stunned everyone in attendance, including Warner who was moved to tears.
