Robert Funk stands up to stern test at PGA West

Robert Funk has had quite a week; he added the Golfweek Senior Amateur title to his resume three days after lifting the trophy in the Northern California Senior Four-Ball.
His victory at PGA West was a battle of will, as the course didn't dole out many low scores during the three rounds. Firm greens made accuracy a premium, as shots from the rough were rejected and bogeys loomed around every corner.
There were only five under-par rounds recorded during the entire tournament, and Funk's 71 in the second round helped set him in up with a one shot lead heading into the final round.
However, it was Funk's exceptional start in the final round that gave him enough breathing room to safely reach the clubhouse and lift the trophy. Funk made an eagle on the fourth hole and birdied the eighth hole en route to a 33.
Jerry Slagle provided the most pressure on Funk early in the third round. He hung tough with an opening 35, managing to keep touch with Funk. However, the back nine 42 put him off the pace and he finished in a tie for sixth place.
Billy Mitchell and
Don Whittemore finished tied in second place at four-over par, three shots off Funk's pace.
The challenging back nine didn't allow anyone to go low enough to pressure Funk down the stretch.
Jeff Burda won the super senior division by a staggering 13 shots. He finished at seven-under par, carding scores of 70-72-67.
Gary Albrecht finished in second place.
In the legend division, Evan Long dominated the field with a final total of six-over par.
Don Donatoni finished in second place at twelve-over par.
John Seehausen took home the super legend title after topping
John Blank on the third playoff hole.
