San Jose State sweeps titles at USF Intercollegiate

Last season San Jose State was one of the most consistent teams in the nation, as the Spartans didn't finish lower than fifth in the team standings in their 11 full-field events, collecting five wins along the way. In three of their wins, the Spartans stared down No. 1 Stanford (twice) and No. 2 Oregon en route to team titles.
San Jose State climbed as high to fourth in the national polls and reached match play at the NCAA Championships before being eliminated by national runner-up Oregon.
If anyone thought San Jose State's 2021-22 season was an aberration, think again.
Proving there is life after first-team All-American
Natasha Andrea Oon, the Spartans are at it again and doing what they do best: winning golf tournaments.
Behind a school-record 7-under 64 by medalist
Kajsa Arwefjall, the 13th-ranked Spartans won the USF Intercollegiate on Tuesday at San Francisco's famed Olympic Club where history has proved over the years to expect the unexpected.
San Jose State entered the final 18 holes on the Lakeside Course in fourth place, 10 shots behind fifth-ranked UCLA, only to shoot a school-record 10-under 274 to finish at 4-under 848 and clip the Bruins by four shots for the team title.
Dana Dorman's squad rode Arwefjall's hot round all the way to the winner's circle, as the Swede collected medalist honors for the first time in her career at 11-under 202, which was good for a three-stroke victory over BYU's
Allysha Mae Mateo.
Arwefjäll 7-under round consisted of seven birdies and 11 pars which broke the old previous school record of 65 shot by My Leander (2015) and Oon (2022). The Spartans' 10-under 274 on Tuesday set a new single-round scoring record, besting the old mark of 275 set twice in 2015 and at the 2022 MountainView Collegiate.
Graduate student
Antonia Malate (t-14th; 216) and sophomore Lucia Lopez-Ortega (t-10th; 214) were also instrumental in the Spartans' comeback, carding under par rounds of 68 and 70, respectively. San Jose State also carded a 1-over 73 from junior
Louisa Carlbom.
Ty Akabane and
Caroline Canales were the Bruins' top scorers, tying for fourth at 3-under for the tournament.
