Maria José Marin Wins Mexican Women’s Amateur
Marie Jose Marin
Arkansas women's head coach Shauna Taylor is getting a good one in
Maria José Marin.
On Sunday, the Razorback commit captured the Mexican International Amateur Championship at Guadalajara Country Club, posting a winning score of 2-under 286.
After carding rounds of 72 and 73 in her first two rounds, the native of Colombia found herself in second place but a third-round 1-under 71 on Saturday moved her to the top of the leaderboard. A final round of 2-under 70 was enough to hold off Texas A&M standout Jennie Park, who finished four back at 2-over 290.
José Marin, ranked 24th by the AJGA, was a semifinalist at the 2022 USGA Girls' Junior Championship. She also won the XII Juegos Suramericanos Paraguay as well as the Columbian Open and the Junior Orange Bowl International Golf Championship in Miami. José Marin was the runner-up in the inaugural Women’s Amateur Latin America Championship in 2021 and the World Junior Girls Championship last October.
