Pepperdine and UCLA's Zoe Campos win Spring Break Classic

There are worst ways to spend a spring vacation rather than playing golf in Hawaii - just ask Pepperdine and UCLA's Zoe Campos.
The Waves shot a team score of 18-under over three rounds at the Kā'anapli Golf Course to win the Anuenue Spring Break Classic by seven strokes over Denver, while Campos earned the first individual title of her collegiate career with a score of 12-under (66-67-71).
The Waves' three-round score of 846 (284-277-285) ranked third-best all-time in the Pepperdine women's golf record books for lowest 54-hole score.
Pepperdine was paced by senior Reese Guzman (Kahului, Hawai'i) and junior Lion Higo (Gold Coast, Australia), who tied for fifth at 7-under par, five strokes behind Campos.
Zoe Campos “We had a lot of fun out there this week with UCLA and Denver, it was tight, but it was exciting and that is what college golf is all about," said Pepperdine head coach Laura Gibbs. “They are awesome, these young ladies have worked so hard – it’s all the time and effort and their belief in themselves and their games, and everything we have done to really elevate (their game).”
This was Pepperdine’s third win this 2022-2023 season with its other two wins coming at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic and the Golf Iconic Classic.
Campos posted a score of 12-under, which is tied for the fifth-lowest 54-hole score in relation to par in program history. The last Bruin to shoot 12-under or better was Patty Tavatanakit at the 2018 ANNIKA Intercollegiate (-13).
“I just really wanted to stay steady and have the same mindset I had the first two days," said Campos. "I wanted to stay calm throughout the whole day and that’s what I did.
“The back nine, I struggled a bit to make some birdies, but I did make some par saves. When it came down to the last few holes, I just said, ok just give yourself a chance. On that last hole finally, some relief came down on me.”
Pepperdine and UCLA will return to action on April 3-5 at the Chevron Silverado Showdown, hosted by the University of Colorado in Napa, Calif.
