The Oklahoma Sooners know a thing or two about the importance of just hanging around.

After watching Stanford and Georgia Tech take turns atop the leaderboard after the first two rounds of The Goodwin, Oklahoma picked the right time to pounce.

Behind a 5-under 65 by Patrick Welch along with a 3-under 67 turned in by medalist Ben Lorenz, the Sooners carded a final round 6-under 274 on a chilly Saturday at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco to edge the Yellow Jackets by six strokes to win the team title.

The Sooners also counted an even par round of 70 by Stephen Campbell, Jr. and a 2-over 70 by Jase Summy en route to collecting their third win of the season following victories at the Puerto Rico and Ka'anapali Classics.

"It was a great win for us after a bumpy last month of golf," Oklahoma head coach Ryan Hybl said. "It's always fun to win, but to do it on a championship golf course like Harding Park makes it even more special.

"I'm really proud of Ben (Lorenz) and what he was able to accomplish this week, and I can't wait to see where he goes from here. Patrick (Welch) was unbelievable, going 9-under over the last two days is something special. We still could have been better in some spots, but the guys are definitely fired up for this win."

Lorenz, a native of Peoria, Ariz., posted rounds of 68-66-67 to finish at 9-under 201 to earn a two-stroke victory over Georgia Tech's Christo Lamprecht for his first collegiate individual title. After picking up a birdie on the par-4 13th, Lorenz holed out his second shot on 15 for an eagle to take a four-stroke lead with three holes remaining.

Bo Peng of Washington, who was tied for the lead with Lorenz entering the day, mustered an even par round of 70 and settled for third at 6-under 204 while Dylan McDermott of Colorado finished four back at 5-under.

Cal's Sampson Zheng and Welch made the biggest moves of the day with red-hot rounds to vault into the top-five. Zheng had eight birdies and just two bogeys on his Saturday card for a final round 64 which shot him 42 spots up the leaderboard into a tie with Welch, who was the low Sooner on the day with a 5-under 65.
