Kevin Kawasaki records first round ace at AG Two Man Links at Bandon Dunes
Ace maker Kevin Kawasaki
When the father and son teams of Edwin and Kevin Kawasaki and Pete and Lawson Wlodkowski strolled off the par-3 12th tee at Bandon Dunes, a bold prediction was made by the the elder Wlodkowski, the founder of AmateurGolf.com, and the Two Man Links Championship.
"I remember the year Charlie Mazzola made an ace on this hole," said Wlodkowski to the younger Kawasaki, Kevin.
"I predict someone is going to make an ace this year."
As both players joked about hoping it would be them who did it, the subject was dropped for rest of the round. But it was "out in the universe," as they say.
During Friday's first round at Bandon Trails, Kawasaki stood up to a 56-degree wedge on the short-but-tricky 5th hole. There are no pictures on the scorecard, but this hole is in fact, featured on the Bandon Trails card and media publications both physical and virtual everywhere. It's a stunner.
Landing one foot away and quickly spinning into the cup, Kawasaki's ace was a thing of beauty, especially for Jimmy, the caddie who fixed his eyes on it from his spot on the 17th tee (in another group) and jumped in the air screaming as it dropped.
The 22nd annual Two Man Links Championship is off with a bang, thanks to Kawasaki. Click the links to view results for Open and Father & Son divisions. And if you've never been to Bandon Dunes, think about joining us next April.
