There weren't too many red flags on the first day of the NCAA Regionals being held at six sites around the country.

Arizona State (-26) and Arkansas (-22) are setting a furious pace at the Las Vegas and Salem Regionals. Chattanooga, the eighth-seed at the Auburn Regional, turned in an impressive 5-under round at the Auburn University Club, where Colorado State (-3) was the only other team to break par in the hot and humid conditions.

Extremely tight races for fifth spots are shaping up at the Las Vegas and Morgan Hill Regionals heading into moving day on Tuesday.

Auburn Regional (Live Scoring)
Auburn University Club; Auburn, Ala.
Eighth-seed Chattanooga set the pace on the first day in Auburn, carding a 5-under 283. Top-ranked Vanderbilt struggled early before settling for a 6-over round of 294, which leaves the Commodores tied with Ohio State for the fifth spot. Second-seed Tennessee is currently three shots off the cutline.

Birdies were plentiful in Salem, where sixth-seed Arkansas is setting a furious pace at 22-under. The Razorbacks also set program overall records for low round (266) and best score in relation to par (-22) to open a six-shot lead over eight-seed New Mexico. Segundo Oliva Pinto and Wil Gibson each carded a first-round, 7-under-par 65 and are tied for third on the individual leaderboard. Top-seed North Carolina turned in a business-like 15-under 273, seven strokes behind Arkansas and one behind New Mexico. North Carolina's Ryan Burnett leads all individuals after tying his career-low round and equaled the best round in an NCAA regional by a Tar Heel with a 9-under-par 63. No. 12 seed Northern Illinois (-13) is also currently inside the cutline, while No. 3 Texas A&M (-7) and No. 4 San Diego State (-4) are not.

Led by a 6-under-par 65 from senior Ben van Wyk, sixth-seed Georgia holds the first-round lead in Bath after carding an 18-under 266. The Bulldogs are six shots clear of host school, Michigan State and top-seed Illinois. The 10th-seeded Spartans performed well in their own backyard, turning in the second-best 18-hole score this season and tied for second-best overall in program history. The trio of fifth-year seniors – Matthis Besard, Adrien Dumont de Chassart, and Tommy Kuhl - combined to shoot 11-under to lead the Illini to a 12-under finish.

As expected, scores were low in Las Vegas, where the top three seeds - Arizona State (-26), Stanford (-20) and Virginia (-19) are running 1-2-3. Southern Conference champion East Tennessee State (-16) turned in a strong performance on Monday and currently sits in the fourth position. The fifth position is shaping up to be quite the scuffle between six teams tht are currently separated by a single stroke.

At 12-under, third-seed Mississippi State was the only team to reach double figures under par in Morgan Hill. Florida Satte (-7) and Pepperdine (-4) are also off to solid starts, while fourth-seed Arizona (+10) dug a hole for itself and is 13 strokes off the cutline with two rounds remaining.

After 72 holes of stroke play, the individual champion is crowned, and the low 8 teams advance to match play to determine the team champion.
