The Wake Forest commit from Winston Salem, NC shot rounds of 69-67-67 to finish 13-under par, five shots clear of Kara Kaneshiro (Honolulu, HI), who finished 8-under par. Maria Isabella Errichetto (Southern Pines, NC) finished in third place at 7-under par.

“I was hitting my approach shots really well and I had a lot of good birdie looks so it gave me a lot of opportunities to make birdies and then my putter was solid all three days,” Pate said. “I made a lot of good putts, especially in the last two rounds.”

She started the final round 3-under par through the first six holes, making sure any intrigue to the back nine was nonexistent.

“Getting off to a good start allowed me to feel comfortable and I didn’t have to try to press or try to force anything,” Pate said. “I just tried to play my own game and not think about anything that anyone else was doing.”

Pate was able to stay consistent and not let the warm weather and 54 holes in the three days get to her, something she was very aware of heading into the tournament. Pate made 18 birdies compared to just five bogeys through the 54 holes.

“It was really important for me to make sure I was eating and drinking enough,” Pate said. “It was really hot all three days and it is easy to get tired out there. I just made sure that I was taking care of things outside of just the golf to make sure I was staying sharp.”

Pate made headlines in 2021 when she shot an outrageous 14 under 57 in a tournament. With the win at Pinehurst, Pate now looks forward to the rest of her summer before heading to Wake Forest for her freshman season.

“This win gives me a lot of confidence going into my last couple of events before college,” Pate said. “I will definitely be taking all the positives from this week into the U.S. Girls Junior and looking to make a run at that event.”

For the girls championship, they played Pinehurst #2 for the first round and Pinehurst #6 for the second and third rounds.

On the boys side of the championship, Coltrane Mittag of Ashland, Nebraska defeated Daniel McBrien of Holly Springs, NC in a playoff to take home the title.

The boys played Pinehurst No. 8 for the first two rounds and Pinehurst No. 2 for the third and final round. This made par 72 the first two rounds and 70 for the third round.

Mittag shot 69-65-71 to shoot 9-under par to force the playoff with McBrien. Mittag entered the day at 10-under par but made just one birdie and two bogeys en route to a 1-over 71 for the final round.

However, he put that behind him and won the championship in the playoff.

Blades Brown of Nashville, Tennessee continues to play great golf, finishing in third place at 7-under par after a final round 68. Earlier this summer he almost won the Tennessee Open, holding the lead into the last round and finishing as low amateur. A week later he captured an AJGA major at the Junior Invitational.

Brooks Simmons (Dallas, TX) and Connor Cassano (Shreveport, Louisiana) finished tied for fourth place at 6-under par.
