Alexandra Gazzoli, Palm Coast, Fla., shot a 4 under 68 in her first round to take the lead at the 29th Women's Amateur Stroke Play Championship and never looked back, going wire-to-wire to get the win.

This was her first-ever FSGA Championship.

Gazzoli followed up her 68 with a second round 2 over 74 and a final round even 72.

“I don’t think its really sunk in yet, but I’m very grateful for the whole experience. I’m just really happy and I think I played really solid this week," Gazzoli told the FSGA about her weekend.

Jacqueline Putrino, Bradenton, Fla., finished in solo second place after falling to Gazzoli on the second hole of a playoff.

Victoria Zheng of Bradenton, Fla., Bianca Sol Cruz of Largo, Fla., and Lauren Clark of Orlando, Fla., all finished in a tie for third place at 1 over for the tournament.

Through the first nine holes, the three, 36-hole co-leaders were keeping pace with each other. While Putrino held a one-shot lead over Gazzoli, and a two-shot lead over Washburn, it was still anyone’s tournament to win with a mix of scoring opportunities and challenging holes remaining.

On No. 11, Gazzoli would make birdie to pull herself back into a tie with Putrino, while Washburn’s double-bogey created a deficit she would be unable to climb back from. Later, on No. 13, a bogey from Gazzoli gave Putrino a one-shot lead, which she would then relinquish with a double bogey on No. 14, and a bogey on No. 15.

With three holes to play, Gazzoli held a two-shot lead, but Putrino was not ready to give up just yet. With back-to-back birdies on No. 16 and No. 17 from Putrino, the championship was tied once again with just one hole remaining.

After both players made par on No. 18, Gazzoli and Putrino were heading into a playoff. On the second playoff hole, Gazzoli’s par would outdo Putrino’s bogey, giving Gazzoli the win.
