Marquette, consisting of Max Lyons, Bhoom-Sima Aree, Patrick Adler and Josh Robinson shot 12-under 840 with their rounds of 277-282-281 to register a win by a one-shot margin over Illinois, the defending champions at the Dayton Flyer Invitational at NCR Country Club in Kettering, OH.
Illinois entered the final round with a two-shot lead with their rounds of 288-271 but fell short by a stroke with their final round 282.
Marquette's team victory marks their first win since clinching the 2023 Big East Championship by a narrow three-stroke margin back in May at Riverton Pointe Golf Club in Hardeeville, South Carolina.
This achievement adds to their recent accomplishments, having also secured top spot at the Redhawk Intercollegiate in Pittsburgh the week before the Big East Championship.
In the individual competition, Timmy Crawford, a fifth-year senior at Illinois, shot 16-under with his rounds of 64-66-67 to claim the medalist honors for the first time in his collegiate career with a massive 10-shot victory.
Crawford entered the final round boasting a commanding five-shot lead over his competitor's thanks to his impressive earlier rounds of 64 and 66, resulting in a remarkable 12-under par.
Crawford emerged victorious by a 10-shot margin over the duo of Josh Robinson from Marquette and Felix Van Dijk from Illinois St., who both finished T2 with a 6-under total score.
Crawford’s 54-hole tally of 197 not only marked a career-best effort but tied for the second-lowest 54-hole tournament score in Illinois program history.
