Ojai Senior Cup: Dan Sullivan holds one shot lead with 18 holes remaining
Dan Sullivan (USGA)
Dan Sullivan's move up the Ojai Senior Cup leaderboard started early on Saturday at Soule Park GC. He made three birdies in his opening five holes. He made five birdies in total on the front nine for an impressive 32.
It was a quieter trip home for Sullivan, as he made eight pars on the back nine and dropped a shot on the sixteenth hole to shoot a 69. After an opening 68, Sullivan, from Pasadena, sits at 7-under par with one round remaining.
Lurking just one shot behind Sullivan is Cory Dishman (Camarillo, Calif). Dishman shot back-to-back 69s for a 6-under-par total.
First-round leader Neal Barfield (Dallas, Texas), who opened the tournament with a blistering 65 that included six birdies and an eagle, had a tougher time on Saturday. After making just one bogey in his opening round, Barfield made six bogeys and a double bogey in the second round. However, his penchant for making birdies kept his hopes alive. He made four birdies and closed the round with an eagle after making a double bogey on the 17th hole. He's just two shots off Sullivan's pace at 5-under par; given the clip that he's making birdies, it's likely he'll make a push up the leaderboard on Sunday.
Gregory Sato (South Pasadena, Calif) and Kory Frost (Trabuco Canyon, Calif) round out the top five at 4-under par.
In the super senior division, Doug Williams (Los Angeles, Calif) is 1-under par after rounds of 71-72. He's the only player under par, and Casey Boyns and Curtis Worley (Coronado, Calif)
