Ellie Bushnell of Granite Bay, Calif., and Oklahoma State finished as the low amateur at the 2023 Women's California State Open at the Industry Hills Golf Club, the Babe Zaharias Course in the City of Industry, Calif.
Bushnell finished 5-under, six shots back of champion Alana Uriell, who finished at 11-under. Uriell and Bushnell were paired up both days and played off each other. Uriell was a second-team All-American at Arkansas in 2018.
"We had a great week," Bushnell told the SCPGA communications staff. "I got to play with the same two other girls both days. That was awesome and a lot of fun."
Bushnell recorded rounds of 69-69 through the two days to finish
Bushnell added, "There are many things I can improve upon, but there are also a lot of things that I proved to myself, so I have those things to take away."
Annika Borrelli of Alamo, Calif., finished in solo third place at 2-under, and Haley Moore of Escondido, Calif., finished in solo fourth place at 1-under. Moore made it to the Round of 32 at the 2018 U.S. Women's Amateur.
Bushnell has a large resume as an amateur. She was the champion of the 2022 California Junior Girls’ State Championship on the Ocean Course at Half Moon Bay Golf Club and won the individual title at the 2022 NorCal Championship.
She was also the champion of the 2021 Notah Begay Stanford Regional Qualifier with rounds of 69 and 68 and competed at the AJGA Arkansas Junior and the IMG Junior World Championships in 2021, recording top-five finishes in both tournaments.
