Mattison Frick, a sophomore at the University of Alabama, shot an impressive 13-under 213 with rounds of 70-63-70 to secure a six-stroke victory at the Cactus Collegiate. The tournament took place at Riverview Golf Club in Sun City, Ariz.
Her second-round score of 9-under 63 tied the men's course record, and her total of 213 is now established as a new tournament record. This victory also earns her an invitation to the 2024 Patriots All-American.
Frick entered the final round holding a five-shot lead with her rounds of 70-63 at 11-under par. She was closely followed by Ellie Bushnell, an Oklahoma State freshman, the opening-round leader, and Nicola Kaminski of Fresno State, both at 6-under par. Bushnell just finished as the low amateur at the California State Women's Open.
Frick, a recent transfer from Illinois, played in 11 of the 12 tournaments throughout the year. Her 32 rounds of action ranked fourth on the team, all while maintaining a scoring average of 75.47, which was the second-best on the team.
Jennifer Seo, who had signed with UCLA, carded 69-71-69 to finish runner-up at 7-under 209.
Kaminski carded rounds of 69-69-73 to finish fifth at 5-under 211 and Bushnell 67-71-74 to finish sixth at 4-under 212.
