Moon Golf Invitational: LSU defends its title by a commanding margin

The LSU Women’s Golf Team, currently ranked 10th nationally, delivered an outstanding performance by shooting 14-under par at the Moon Golf Invitational held at the Classic Course of Suntree Country Club in Melbourne, Fla., successfully defended its title. 

Consisting of rounds totaling 283-290-277, they secured a commanding 16-shot victory.

Auburn finished runner-up at 2-over par after shooting cumulative scores of 282-291-293.

LSU and Auburn entered the final round tied for the lead at 573, where LSU turned the tide by posting an 11-under 277 against Auburn’s 5-over 293, resulting in a dominating win for LSU.

The win is the 56th in the history of the LSU women’s golf team, dating back to the 1979-80 season, and the 13th under sixth-year head coach Garrett Runion.

In the individual competition, Maisie Filler, a senior at the University of Florida, shot 9-under par, following her rounds of 66-69-72 to register a win by three-strokes in a wire-to-wire fashion.

LSU graduate student and No. 1 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings Ingrid Lindblad carded rounds of 70-72-68, finishing T2 alongside Aine Donegan, her teammate at LSU at 6-under. Donegan, with rounds of 70-69-71, achieved her best finish of the junior season after two ninth-place finishes in the fall.

For Lindblad, this marks her 38th top-10 placement in 45 events as a collegiate player and her 29th top-five finish.

Lindblad led the field on the par 4s with a scoring average of 3.83, while Donegan posted 14 birdies to tie for the most birdies in the tournament alongside Filler.

Grad. student Latanna Stone carded rounds of 71-75-69 to register a T8 finish at a total score of 1-under par, marking three top 10 finishes for the school in the individual competition.

On the statistics front, LSU emerged as the tournament leader on the par 3s (even) and par 4s (+1). Additionally, LSU was tied for the event lead on the par 5s at 6-under. The team also led the tournament in birdies with a total of 47.
