Dr. Donnis Thompson: Ashley Menne of Arizona State leads heading into the final round

Ashley Menne of Arizona State and
Camille Boyd of Washington are battling down to the wire at the 2024 Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at The Ocean Course at Hokuala in Lihue, Hi.
Menne has shot rounds of 69-64 to get to 11-under. Her second-round bogey-free 8-under 64 consisted of six birdies and an eagle. She eagled the par-5 No. 2 and birdied holes No. 1, 4, 9, 10, 13, and 18.
Boyd is currently in solo second place at 10-under, one shot back of Menne. She has recorded rounds of 5-under 67 on both days.
Kayla Smith and Megan Streicher of North Carolina and Beth Coulter and Patience Rhodes of Arizona State are all T3 at 7-under, four shots back of Menne and three shots back of Boyd.
Menne had a great 2023, earning medalist honors at the North & South Amateur and making the round of 16, finishing in solo fourth place at the Southwestern Women's Amateur, finishing T6 at the Dick McGuire Invitational, and T17 at the Pac-12 Women's Championship.
Menne is currently ranked No. 47 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings. Boyd is ranked No. 69 and is coming off a co-medalist finish at the Meadow Club Intercollegiate.
Arizona State holds a comfortable lead in the team competition, sitting at 30-under and 14 shots ahead of North Carolina, who is in solo second place at 16-under.
Arizona State has shot rounds of 280-266 to run away from the field. The second-round 22-under 266 ballooned the lead from two shots to 14 shots.
Washington is in solo third place at 14-under, Sacramento State is in solo fourth place at 3-under, and Fresno State is in solo fifth place at 2-over.
