AAC Women's Championship: SMU takes the team title by two shots

The SMU women's golf team used a strong final round to win the 2024 American Athletic Women's Golf Championship at the Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Fla.
The Mustangs carded rounds of 278-289-276 to get to 21-under and win by two shots over Tulsa. SMU's first round of 10-under 278 got them the early lead, but a second round 1-over 289 saw them relinquish the lead to Tulsa and enter the final round down three shots.
In the final round, a 12-under 276 gave the Mustangs the two-shot lead.
Tulsa finished in solo second place at 19-under, and South Florida finished in solo third place at 14-under. East Carolina finished in solo fourth place at 2-over, and UTSA finished in solo fifth place at 7-over.
In the individual competition, Daniela Abonce of UTSA finished 9-under to pull off the come-from-behind win in the final round. Abonce shot a 3-under 69 final round to erase a three-shot deficit from Lovisa Gunnar of Tulsa. Gunnar shot a final round 1-over 73 to fall to solo second place at 8-under.
Abonce shot rounds of 66-72-69 to win the title. She finished T2 in the 2024 Mexican Women's Amateur and is currently ranked No. 283 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings.
Melanie Green of South Florida and Grace Kilcrease of Tulsa finished T3 at 6-under, and Emily Odwin of SMU, Mackenzie Lee of SMU, Mason Lewis of North Texas, and Ellie Szeryk of SMU finished T5 at 5-under.
