Ty Gingerich, a recent graduate of Cincinnati, shot 13-under to win the 2024 Indiana Amateur Championship at Rock Hollow Golf Club in Peru, Ind.

Gingerich, a native of Carmel, Ind., shot rounds of 72-68-63 to get to 13-under.

Gingerich came into the final round one shot back of Cole Starnes and Matt Vogt. He wasn’t behind them for long, as he birdied his first four holes and shot a 29 on the front.

“It was a really solid round of golf,” Gingerich said. “I just had the mindset I could only control my game, but if I played a solid round, then I might have a chance at the end of the day.”

Gingerich is ranked No. 103 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com U.S. Rankings.

Standing on the No. 14 tee, Gingerich had a one-shot lead, but a seven on the par-3 from Starnes gave Gingerich the cushion that he needed to secure the win.

“That was definitely the turning point,” Gingerich said. “I was really patient with my tee shot after seeing (Starnes) and just tried to put it in the middle of the green.”

Starnes finished in solo second place at 9-under, while Vogt finished in solo third place at 5-under. Kash Bellar and Sean Rowan finished T4 at 4-under, rounding out the top five.

Gingerich is coming off a co-medalist finish at the 2024 Big 12 Championships.

“Everything is pretty solid right now,” Gingerich said. “All phases of the game are in a good spot. The strengths of my game are driving and ball-striking, and those two things have been really good, and if I have a good putting week or day, then I can make a lot of birdies.”

Gingerich is now a two-time state amateur winner since he won the 2022 Ohio Amateur. He won that in a similar fashion, coming from behind to win after a final round 8-under 63.

“I love playing that kind of golf,” Gingerich said. “When I am in contention to win the final round, and I have 18 holes to win a golf tournament. That is why I play the game. To be in those moments and get the job done.”

Gingerich added, “I drew back on that experience at the Ohio Amateur, and it was similar, so I felt comfortable going into the round.”

With the win, he has now punched his ticket to his first U.S. Amateur appearance, earning a spot in the field at Hazeltine National Golf Club in August.

“It is very exciting,” Gingerich said. “It is nice to know I have a spot secured in that tournament. It’s a good, exciting feeling knowing what that tournament means and having the opportunity to play in it.”
