Bryan Newman from North West Province delivered an impressive performance at the Border Stroke Play held at East London Golf Club in Nahoon, South Africa. With rounds of 70-71-72, he shot a remarkable 6-under 213, securing a victory by a five-stroke margin.
Keagan Michael Crosbie and Liam Ross both finished with a total score of 1-under 218, earning a joint runner-up position in the competition. Crosbie recorded rounds of 72, 76, and 70, while Ross posted scores of 72-73- 73.
Newman started the final round with a four-shot lead, sitting at 5-under 141. His final round of 72 proved challenging. Despite beginning with back-to-back birdies, he encountered difficulties with a bogey on the par-5 3rd and a quadruple bogey on the par-4 12th, creating opportunities for his competitors.
However, the day's second-best round, a 70 by Crosbie, only secured his joint runner-up finish, five strokes behind Newman.
Newman had a standout season in 2023, securing victories at the NOMADS Coastal NOoM 1 and the Nedbank Junior Challenge in South Africa. Internationally, as a member of the Golf South Africa squad, he finished as the runner-up at the Boys Scottish Open, earning the George MacDonald Memorial Bowl for the leading under-16 player.
In 2024, Newman competed in 13 ranked events, achieving six top-10 finishes. Notably, he recorded back-to-back top-10 finishes at the NOMADS Inland NOoM 2 and the Limpopo Open Stroke Play Championship before his triumph at the East London Golf Club.
