In what is becoming a trend this summer, Florida State rising junior
Luke Clanton puts up another solid showing on the PGA Tour.
And now he can turn his attention to the marathon that is the U.S. Amateur Championship. Clanton, who is ranked No. 1 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings, finished in solo fifth place at the Wyndham Championship at 14-under, four shots back of winner Aaron Rai.
Clanton shot rounds of 68-67-62-69 to get to 14-under. He recorded two eagles, 21 birdies, and 11 bogeys on the week.
The championship was hit hard with rain from Hurricane Debbie, pushing back the start to Friday morning at 9:50 a.m. ET. Because of that, Clanton played 39 holes of golf on Sunday, finishing his second round and playing his entire third and fourth rounds.
Clanton has now played in six PGA tour events this summer, making the cut in five of them and finishing runner-up at the John Deere Classic.
Now, Clanton will hop on a private jet to get from North Carolina to Minnesota for his 2 p.m. ET tee time with Gordon Sargent and Jackson Koivun for the U.S. Amateur, a six-day marathon for the winner.
