After five days of golf in Myrtle Beach, S.C., Upendra Modak of Charlotte, N.C., shot a net 68 and a gross 81 to win the Flight Winners Playoff at the 41st Annual PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship Friday at the host Grande Dunes Resort Course.

Modak defeated Ryan Ferreira of Portugal and Nicolas Cote of Voluntown, Conn., by a narrow margin of just one stroke to claim the title of World Champion at Grande Dunes.

Sean O’Donnell of Glendale, Ariz., finished the first 72 holes of the event at 10-under to win the Men’s Gross Division title, besting Christopher Schultz of La Porte, Ind., by three shots, while Michael Batten of Louisville, Kent., cruised to victory in the Men’s Senior Gross Division.

Orlando Rodriguez of Miami, Fla., shot a four-round total of 299 to win by five shots over Michael Barclay of Cartersville, Ga., to secure the Men’s Mid-Senior Gross Division championship.

Jackie Sexton of Cumming, Ga., won a sudden death playoff against Jill Pilkington of Lincoln, Neb., to win the Women’s Gross Division.

According to the Myrtle Beach World Amateur website, the tournament is the largest, most fun & most valuable golf tournament on the planet. It is entering its 41st year in 2024; the “World Am” has 72 holes of net and stroke play, with over 3,000 golfers competing on over 50 of Myrtle Beach’s best golf courses.

This year, there were 12 divisions and 63 competitive flights, with 49 states and 17 countries participating. The average tournament index is 11.7
