One of the top freshmen in the country wasted no time in securing her first collegiate win.
Jasmine Koo of USC finished 5-under to win the Windy City Collegiate Classic at Westmoreland Country Club in Wilmette, Ill.
Koo, who is ranked No. 84 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings, shot rounds of 68-67-76 to finish 5-under and on top of the field by two shots.
“Jasmine has been working really hard and smart the last couple weeks and we’re really proud of her for her efforts,” head coach Justin Silverstein told USC Athletics. “She’s improved in a lot of areas since she showed up to campus, and we look forward to continuing to work with her so she can achieve everything she wants in golf."
Koo was one of the top juniors in the country before getting to USC. She made the semifinals of the 2024 U.S. Girls Junior and the final 32 of the 2024 U.S. Women's Amateur. In her first college start, she finished 15th at the Invitational at Chambers Bay and won the 2023 Women's Western Amateur. She also finished in solo fourth place at the Augusta National Women's Amateur.
“One of the reasons we love coming to this tournament to compete is because of the difficulty of the golf course,” Silverstein added. “Playing these courses at this time of year gives us a great reading on where we’re at as a team and where we need to improve. Based on our first two events, we’ve been able to identify those areas, and it’ll give us some stuff to work on before we head to Stanford.”
Koo struggled in the windy final round, but her five-shot lead entering the final 18 holes was enough to hold onto late.
Natasha Kiel of Purdue finished in solo second place at 3-under, and Suvichaya Vinijchaitham of Oregon finished in solo third place at 1-under.
Charlotte Back of Arizona finished in solo fourth place at 1-under and six golfers finished T5 at even par to round out the top five.
In the team competition, Arizona State finished 11-over to win by six shots. South Carolina finished in solo second place at 17-over, and USC finished in solo third place at 25-over.
The Sun Devils carded rounds of 296-283-296 to secure the win.
Northwestern finished in solo fourth place at 28-over, and Oregon finished in solo fifth place at 31-over.
