Tom Fischer of Birmingham wins the 108th Alabama State Amateur Championship with an overall score of 13-under 275 (68, 73, 65, 69). Heading into the final round with a one-shot lead, Fischer fired off five birdies to finish with a final round score of three-under 69 and claim the title by four-shots.
“I played pretty good, I didn’t get off to the best of starts but I kind of steadied the ship and gave myself a bunch of looks and made a couple birdies,” said Fischer.
Josiah Gilbert of Millbrook finished second with an overall score of nine-under 279 (73, 71, 70, 65) and Hal Dove of Dothan posted an overall score of seven-under 281 (67, 75, 68, 71) to finish third.
Fischer’s win secured him a spot to the 2024 U.S. Amateur Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota August 12-18.
