Michael Anderson (Society of Seniors Photo)
Day one at World Golf Village in St. Augustine saw dense fog roll in that caused about an hour delay after the first few groups got underway on Tuesday morning. As the fog lifted, players took advantage of good scoring conditions on the Slammer & Squire course, as 15 players posted rounds of even par or better.
Michael Anderson, of Novi, MI, leads the way in the Senior Division after a brilliant round of 4-under 68. He’s two shots ahead of Steve Harwell, of Moorseville, NC. Another pack of four players lurk at 1-under par after round one.
James Pearson, of Charlotte, NC, continued his stellar play as of late with his own round of 4-under 68 to lead the Super Senior Division. Mark Macejko, of Pinehurst, NC, is just one stroke behind after a 3-under 69.
The leaderboard in the Legend Division is bunched up as Marc Fried, of Solon, OH, is tied at even par with Les Devitt, of Concord, MA. A group of three more contenders sit just a shot back, including Pete Allen, of Southport, NC, Don Donatoni, of West Chester, PA, and Paul Schlachter, of Naples, FL.
In the Super Legend Division, local Bill Engel, of St. Augustine, FL, found red numbers himself, shooting two-under 70. He leads Sam Robinson, of Jacksonville Beach, FL, by two strokes.
The second round will be underway tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.
