Albright, Mays lead Florida State to round one lead at Watersound Invitational

The host school, Florida State Seminoles, is heavily represented at the top of the leaderboard after the opening round of the 2025 Watersound Invitational at Sharks Tooth Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Fla.
Michael Mays and Gray Albright shot rounds of 5-under 67 to take a two-shot lead over the field. Albright recorded seven birdies and two bogeys, including a bogey on the opening hole, while Mays had five birdies, two bogeys, and an eagle. The eagle was a hole out on the par-4 No. 13.
Albright is currently ranked No. 72 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings and recently won the prestigious 2025 Jones Cup.

Nick Gross of Alabama, Omar Morales of UCLA, and Caleb Bond of Michigan State are T3 at 3-under to round out the top five.
In the team competition, Florida State shot a team round of 10-under 278 to take a three-shot lead over UCLA, who currently sit in solo second place at 7-under.
Alabama is in solo third place at 3-under, Michigan State is in solo fourth place at 1-under, and Clemson is in solo fifth place at 1-over after the opening 18 holes.
Due to the threat of inclement weather on Wednesday, the teams will play 36 holes on Tuesday.
