Mike Franzago earns medalist honors at San Francisco City Open Qualifier
Players getting ready to start their rounds as the 109th SF City gets underway
Mike Franzago earned medalist honors at the Open flight qualifying at Lincoln Park Golf Course in San Francisco, Calif., for the 2025 San Francisco City Championship. Franzago of San Francisco, Calif., earned medalist honors with a 6-over 74.
Franzago recorded two birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys.
Ken Harrington of San Francisco, Calif., finished with a round of 7-over 75, and Dan Valine of Danville, Calif., finished with a round of 9-over 77.
In the open flight, all 69 players will make match play. There will be five flights, with a bracket coming shortly.
In the second pre-qualifier, Jack Hayden of Dublin, Calif., a freshman at Santa Clara, earned medalist honors after shooting an even-par 68 with three birdies and three bogeys. Other top rounds included Barrett Dowling of San Francisco, Calif., who shot 5-over, and Jinhan Park of Cypress, Calif., who shot 8-over.
Nine players advanced in men's pre-qualifying to the 36-hole qualifying rounds on Saturday and Sunday. The main pre-qualifier will take place at Lincoln Park Golf Course on Friday.
This is the 109th playing of the historic championship. This year, Lincoln Park Golf Course was brought back as a second course to the iconic TPC Harding Park. Lincoln Park is where the tournament was founded in 1916 and features unmatched views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay. It also has one of the most scenic par-3s in the world, No. 17.
Past champions include 1964 US Open Champion Ken Venturi, 1999 US Women's Open Champion Julie Inkster, and 1969 Masters Champion George Archer. More recently, LPGA Tour player Dorothy Delasin* of Daly City (winner of the 1998 US Junior Girls Championship and 1999 US Women's Amateur) claimed the Women's City Championship in 1998.
