Ryan Firpo
Through six holes of the 2025 San Francisco City Pre-Qualifier, Fresno State sophomore
Ryan Firpo of Davis, Calif., seemed like he was playing a video game.
Firpo started 6-under through six holes with four birdies and an eagle. However, Firpo made six bogeys in the final 12 holes to fall back to even par. Austin Krewson of Larkspur, Calif., also shot even par on the day, but he did it with 16 pars and one birdie and one bogey.
"It was an interesting day," Firpo said. "I got off to a hot start and made some bogeys coming in, but overall, I played solid. At the end of the day, I qualified, so I am happy with that."
Firpo is a sophomore at Fresno State and won Mountain West Freshman of the Year last season, while Krewson is a financial advisor at Wealth Enhancement Group and graduated from Central Oklahoma University. Firpo won the 2024 Santa Clara County Championship and the 2023 Davis City.
Players were graced with great weather in the Bay area on Friday.
"I always say the number one thing in the tournament is once you have assembled the players and have the courses, it's the weather," AmateurGolf.com founder Pete Wlodkowski said.
In all, there are over 500 players in all the flights combined playing in the championship

"This tournament is so much fun playing match play and having it over the course of three weekends," Firpo said. "It is for sure one of my favorite tournaments to play in, so I am thrilled to keep it going over the next couple of weekends."
Wlodkowski added, "It is a par 68, and it looks like you can tear it up, but it gets a lot of its teeth from the par-3s. Nos. 16 and 17 are 230 and 240 yards."
This is the 109th playing of the historic championship. This year, Lincoln Park Golf Course was brought back as a second course to the iconic TPC Harding Park. Lincoln Park is where the tournament was founded in 1916 and features unmatched views of the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay.
It also has one of the most scenic par-3s in the world, No. 17.
Past champions include 1964 US Open Champion Ken Venturi, 1999 US Women's Open Champion Julie Inkster, and 1969 Masters Champion George Archer. More recently, LPGA Tour player Dorothy Delasin* of Daly City (winner of the 1998 US Junior Girls Championship and 1999 US Women's Amateur) claimed the Women's City Championship in 1998.
