Robert Funk earns medalist honors at SF City Senior stroke play qualifying

Robert Funk carded the lone round in red numbers at the 2025 San Francisco City Senior Men's Championship stroke play qualifying round at TPC Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco, Calif.

Funk, a native of Canyon Lake, Calif., shot a 1-under 71 to win medalist honors. He recorded three birdies and two bogeys, including a birdie on the first hole. 

Daniel O'Connor finished in solo second place at 1-over, and Stephen Sear, Mark Sanchez, and Jeff Heitt all shot 2-over to round out the top five in the qualifying round.

Funk is currently ranked No. 26 in the AmateurGolf.com Senior Rankings.

The California native has put together an impressive amateur resume, winning low amateur honors at the 2017 U.S. Senior Open and finishing runner-up at the 2017 Kelly Cup. He is also a five-time qualifier for the U.S. Mid-Amateur, winner of the 2006 Trans-Miss Amateur, and two-time winner of the Southern California Mid-Amateur in 2006 and 2013.

After the 18-hole qualifying round, the top 32 finishers now advance to match play, starting on Wednesday, March 19. All rounds will be played at TPC Harding Park.

Tuesday, March 18: Stroke play qualifying
Wednesday, March 19: First-round match play
Thursday, March 20: Second-round match play
Friday, March 21: Quarterfinals
Saturday, March 22: Semifinals
Sunday, March 23: Final

Open to the first 84 entries received. Participants must have an index of 9.4 or lower as of the date of entry and must be 55 or older as of the first day of the tournament. Qualifying will consist of one 18- hole stroke play round (Tue Mar 18) after which the Senior Men's Championship Flight will consist of 32 match-play contestants.

In case of ties, a card-off (see SF City Golf Championship Playoff Procedures) will determine the players who will advance to match play. Players’ scores will determine seeding for match play. All rounds will be played at TPC Harding Park Golf Course.

Match play starts Wed Mar 19, with matches scheduled for Thu-Fri March 20-21 and the semis and finals on Sat- Sun Mar 22-23.

WITHDRAWALS AND REFUND POLICY
Players needing to withdraw should do so by filling out the form at sfgolfchampionship.com/contact/ . Players withdrawing before the entry deadline of February 18 will receive a refund of their entry fee minus $50. There will be no refunds after the entry deadline.

The oldest municipal tournament in the USA. Match play event with scratch men's, senior, women's, senior women's and open flight divisions.
