MONTEREY, Calif. (Dec. 7, 2008) -- For the past three years, the Christmas Classic has ended in a tie, requiring extra holes to award the Championship. This year, it was amateurgolf.com Player-of-the-Year Randy Haag, (he sealed the title with his runner-up victory today) against Reid Scarff after both players tied at 5-under-par.

Scarff ended the playoff quickly on the first hole with his 20-foot birdie putt while Haag's sidehill effort to tie slid by.

Both golfers found the green with their third shots after their drives didn't give them the opportunity to try for the green in two.

Haag was the leader heading into the final day of play after he carded an impressive 6-under 64 in the first round at Pacific Grove Golf Links. Scarff put up a 67 on Day 1 and cardeed the second best round of the day at Del Monte, a 70. Matt Montez had the low number of the day, a 69.

Andrey Mindirgasov, one of a full contingent of Cal-Berkeley golfers, tied with Chad Vivolo for third place at 4-under 138.

Kent Yamane, who reached the semifinals of the San Francisco City Championship and made the trip to Pinehurst for the U.S. Amateur took fifth at 3-under 139.

In the Senior Division, it was Herb Jensen of Carmichael at 1-over-par edging Rich Morrison and Rob Thompson, both of whom finished at 144.

Korsen Yu lit up Pacific Grove Golf Links in the Net Flight; his net 64 gave him a 4 stroke victory over Todd Knapp of Salinas and Nigel Harold of Alameda.
