Jerry Ledzinski goes low to lead U.S. Senior Open Qualifying at Richmond CC
The U.S. Senior Open Local Qualifier held Monday at Richmond Country Club delivered standout performances as 16 players punched their ticket to the final stage in Colorado Springs.

Carmel’s Jerry Ledzinski set the tone with a sizzling 4-under 68, highlighted by a back nine charge that included five birdies in his final nine holes. His seven total birdies led the field and helped him separate from a tightly packed leaderboard.

William Ayres of San Jose carded a 2-under 70 to claim solo second, while a logjam at even par 72 saw four players—including Jason Schmuhl and Larry Salk—advance safely.

The cut line landed at 4-over, with Tim Bogue taking the final qualifying spot. Two more players, Peter Wood and Kane Lack, earned alternate status in a playoff.

Ledzinski’s round stood out not just for the score but the way he compiled it. After a modest front nine 2-over 37, he caught fire coming home with birdies at holes No. 10, 11, 13, 15, and 17. He ranked first in birdies, par-4 scoring at 4-under, and tied first in par-5 scoring at 2-under, showing both precision and aggressiveness when it mattered.

The Richmond CC setup played to 6,512 yards at par 72, and despite its picturesque parkland setting above San Pablo Bay, it challenged the field with fast greens and firm conditions. With only one round to secure a spot, every shot mattered.
