Golfers and fans of heartfelt comedy have plenty to look forward to this summer, as Apple TV+ prepares to release "Stick," a highly anticipated sports-comedy starring Owen Wilson. Premiering June 4, the series taps directly into the enduring popularity of the game and comes at an exciting moment for golf, with the sport booming post-pandemic and gearing up for events like the U.S. Amateur at San Francisco's Olympic Club and the Ryder Cup at Bethpage.

"Stick" follows Pryce Cahill (Owen Wilson), a former pro golfer whose career famously derailed during a dramatic meltdown at TPC Sawgrass. Two decades after his public humiliation, Pryce finds himself divorced, unemployed, and barely getting by when he stumbles upon his shot at redemption—a troubled but gifted teenage golf prodigy named Santi, portrayed by rising actor Peter Dager. The story unfolds as Pryce attempts to coach Santi to qualify for, and potentially win, the U.S. Amateur Championship, making it a particularly exciting watch for fans planning to follow the real-life championship at Olympic Club later this year.

With echoes of "Ted Lasso" blended seamlessly with the irreverent charm of "Happy Gilmore," the series -- created by Jason Keller, who also serves as the showrunner and EP -- promises an uplifting, comedic spin on the classic comeback narrative.

Wilson (also an EP of the series along with Guymon Casady) combines his comedic charisma with an impressive supporting cast, including Marc Maron, Mariana Treviño, Judy Greer, Lilli Kay, and Timothy Olyphant.

Golf fans will appreciate the authenticity brought by cameos from professional golfers like Collin Morikawa, Keegan Bradley, Max Homa, and Wyndham Clark, alongside renowned broadcasters Jim Nantz and Trevor Immelman. Adding modern flair, "Stick" also features cameos from popular golf influencers Matt Scharff, Brad Dalke, Garrett Clark, and journalist Dan Rapaport.

The series debuts as golf continues to attract diverse new audiences through simulator leagues, indoor golf venues like Top Golf, and innovative tournament formats. With "Happy Gilmore II" also slated for release this July, the timing couldn't be better to ride the wave of enthusiasm around the sport.

In the trailer, which captures the humorous yet heartfelt tone of the series, Wilson’s Pryce Cahill struggles to overcome past failures and familial tensions, finding unexpected joy and purpose mentoring young Santi. The narrative emphasizes friendship, resilience, and the redemptive power of golf, offering a fresh look at the sport through emotional and comedic lenses.

This summer promises to be a memorable one for golf entertainment, with "Stick" poised to lead the way, appealing equally to avid golfers and casual viewers alike. Mark your calendars, stream the show starting June 4, and join in celebrating another reason to love the ever-growing world of golf.
