🔥 Round One Recap: Watts and Colton Share the Lead at Streamsong

BOWLING GREEN, FL (May 26, 2025) – The opening round of the 2025 Team TaylorMade Invitational delivered exactly what we’ve come to expect from one of the AJGA’s flagship events: a stacked leaderboard, strong scoring, and future stars making their mark on one of junior golf’s biggest stages.

Tyler Watts (Huntsville, Ala., 2026) and Luke Colton (Frisco, Texas, 2026) each fired a 5-under 67 to share the overnight lead after round one at Streamsong Resort’s Black Course. Both players navigated the firm, fast layout without a bogey, showing calm under pressure in front of a national audience.

Hot on their heels at 4-under 68 are a trio of proven contenders: Miles Russell (Jacksonville Beach, Fla.), Dawson Lew (Toronto, Canada), and Willie Gordon (Hot Springs, Ark.).

📊 Tournament Records Worth Watching

The bar is high for any player looking to rewrite the record book this week:

  • Low Round: 62 (-10) – Luke Clanton, 2021
  • Low 36-Hole Total: 132 (-12) – Cayden Pope, Miles Russell, Benjamin James (tied)
  • Low 54-Hole Total: 200 (-16) – Cayden Pope and Miles Russell, 2023

Russell, who matched the 54-hole record here just two years ago, is once again in contention and well within reach of his own mark.

đź‘€ More Round 1 Standouts

  • Edan Cui (Atherton, Calif.) and Phillip Dunham (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) posted solid 3-under 69s.
  • Jaden Soong (Los Angeles, Calif.) was -1 through 15 at last report, looking to surge late.
  • Cameron Kuchar (St. Simons Island, Ga.) finished with a steady 71 (-1).
  • Charlie Woods (Jupiter, Fla.) sits at +2 through 7 in his Team TaylorMade debut.

🌦️ Course and Conditions

Despite a weather delay on Monday afternoon, play continued under warm and breezy conditions at Streamsong’s Black Course. Players praised the championship setup, with slick greens and firm approaches testing every part of their game.

đź“… Looking Ahead

Round two kicks off Tuesday morning with several players still finishing their opening rounds. With no cut, the full 72-player field will continue battling for positioning going into Wednesday’s finale.

All competitors play three rounds—there is no cut—allowing full exposure in front of college coaches in attendance. The AJGA’s emphasis on etiquette, pace of play, and care for the course is reflected throughout the week. Players are required to use the Golf Genius app for digital scorekeeping and are permitted to use push carts and distance-measuring devices within USGA limits.
